Got a confused teen?

confused teenRemember those days when we were teens… we were growing like crazy, our hormones were going nuts, and our poor minds were left to somehow, someway cope with all of those changes.  And to top it all off, we were sure no one understood us, especially our parents…since they seemed to frown on so many of the decisions we made back them.   No wonder we were so confused and unsure of ourselves!  Well, it’s 2012 and it’s still tough to be a teen.  So what can you do to save your kids from years of tortuous self-esteem issues and self-doubt?

According to Developmental Psychology,

adolescents who have open communication with their parents are more likely to be well-adjusted teens…meaning high self-esteem, confidence, and positive mood!

Get your kids talking!  So, how do you do it?  Provide your child with a warm and accepting environment so that they always feel welcome coming to you with their latest news… good or bad.  Whether it’s making honor roll, gushing over undying love for someone, or ending up at detention …lend them your ear…and be sure to keep your own reactions in check.

Remember, it’s so much easier to talk to a friendly face than an angry scowl.
